Una de las dudas más recurrentes durante las charlas ha sido esta: ¿qué significa masculinidades?
Aquí una explicación sencilla. El término “masculinidades” se refiere a las diferentes formas en que se construye y se vive la identidad de género masculina.
Reconoce que existen diversas formas de ser hombre y de expresar la masculinidad, más allá de los estereotipos tradicionales.
¿Cuántos tipos de masculinidades existen?
En cuanto a los tipos de masculinidades, existen varias perspectivas en la teoría de género que es importante identificar. Algunas clasificaciones comunes incluyen:
- Masculinidades hegemónicas (basadas en los estereotipos tradicionales de masculinidad dominante),
- Masculinidades subalternas (que desafían o no se ajustan completamente a la masculinidad hegemónica) y
- Masculinidades no conformes (que se alejan de las expectativas tradicionales de género).
En México, la clasificación del ser varón puede variar dependiendo de la perspectiva cultural y social.
Algunas clasificaciones comunes incluyen:
- la masculinidad machista (basada en la supremacía masculina y los roles tradicionales de género),
- la masculinidad proveedora (enfocada en el rol de proveedor económico) y
- la masculinidad igualitaria (que busca la equidad de género y desafía los roles de género tradicionales).
¿Cuál es el significado de masculinidades positivas?
Para responder también sobre qué significa masculinidades, existe también otro término muy interesante. El término “masculinidades positivas” se refiere a formas de masculinidad que promueven relaciones igualitarias, respetuosas y no violentas, desafiando los estereotipos y roles tradicionales de género.

Buscan construir masculinidades que sean saludables, empáticas y solidarias.
¿Qué implica para un varón vivir la nueva corriente feminista?
Para un varón vivir la nueva corriente feminista implica apoyar y promover la igualdad de género, desafiar los roles y estereotipos de género tradicionales, cuestionar los privilegios masculinos y trabajar para construir una sociedad más equitativa y justa para todas las personas, independientemente de su género. Por lo tanto; esto significa para los hombres, de ser consciente de las problemáticas de género y buscar ser un aliado activo en la lucha por la igualdad.
